Whether you are a club soccer veteran, or considering club soccer for the first time, this book gives you a fresh, honest, insightful look at how club teams really work, where your dollars go, and how to get the most out of your club soccer "investment." It offers a candid, insider's look at the good, the bad, and the ugly of club soccer, including the real benefits of participating in club soccer. Not only will this book help you better navigate the intense, competitive landscape, but it will help you to make better decisions in difficult situations, so that your child and club team can be successful.
"It is essential that families know what they want when they enter club soccer. Too many jump in feet first, with little or no knowledge of what they are actually getting into."
"A gritty and honest look at the realities of club soccer. Dispels many of the myths of club soccer, and in so doing, does a favor to those who read this book and are seriously contemplating club soccer for their children."
"A great book for both club soccer veterans and those just getting started. In fact, it should be mandatory for all soccer parents to buy this book at sign up."
"Gary Smith has done an impressive job of laying out the landscape of club soccer."
"Gary Smith’s Club Soccer Insider's Guide to Winning the Game has given the entire soccer community valuable insights into the realities of youth soccer. Club Soccer should be read by anyone involved in youth soccer whether a coach, parent or administrator."
Club Soccer eBook Gary Smith
This is a useful book, particularly for parents who grew up outside of competitive soccer (or, arguably, comptitive youth sports) and hence, may be unaware of some of the ins and outs of the system as its developed. As the book more than adequately describes, soccer, and youth sports, today are big business. Thirty years ago most coaches were volunteers, now the heads of top clubs make big salaries. Kids used to wear cheap uniforms and travel to the neighboring community to play other community clubs - now they wear uniforms costing hundreds of dollars and travel to tournaments all over the country.
There was not much new in this book for me, having been involved in the "system" most of my life as a player, coach and now parent. That being said, the message that Smith delivers is important - winning versus development (most parents can't tell the difference) - if you're looking for a soccer scholarship - good luck! Etc.
While the books probably a bit more focused on the So. Cal. soccer scene than it could have been, it does impart good advice that really should help guide the financially and developmentally important decisions that every player and their family must make as they advance through the ranks of youth soccer.
In all, this book is well-written, readable, and it really strikes close to home! Highly recommended for any parents of players who are considering making the jump to true "competitive" soccer.

Club Soccer eBook Gary Smith Reviews
I found this book full of data and insights that helped put structure and conviction around my vaguely formed impressions of club soccer. I'd recommend it to any parent that wants to be positively involved in their child's development and enjoyment of team sports.
